Counseling

Establishing education and career goals requires time, thought and life experience. Sometimes the decision-making process may feel a bit overwhelming. So many choices! Counseling can be helpful in putting together an effective plan.

For enlisted personnel just starting the college experience, a weekly 1-hour college basics counseling session is held. Although many questions are addressed through customer service; it does not replace the interaction provided in a counseling appointment. Preparing a good educational plan involves thought and time. The ideal time to attend is 2-4 weeks before college courses begin in order to implement things you learn. Also review our college basics brochure.

Upcoming college basics counseling dates:
0800 hrs 9 Feb 2010
1400 hrs 25 Feb 2010
0800 hrs 2/9/16/30 Mar 2010
0800 hrs 6/13/20/27 Apr 2010

'Locking-in' a college major at the very beginning is rarely adviseable or encouraged. BEWARE of schools which pressure you in this way! Starting with general education courses is usually the best plan, at least in the beginning. This gives you the greatest flexibility later in case you change your mind and 85% of us do! Keep your options open and capitalize on maximum use of the AF tuition assistance program!

Negotiating work, personal and school schedules requires a balancing act. Add life changes to this mix and accomplishing your goals can become more difficult. This is another reason we encourage completing the CCAF degree first. Not only is CCAF significant to your AF professional development, but it provides an excellent 'technical and diverse' degree after you leave the AF! Most airmen who carefully plan - re-use the same courses toward later degrees.

If you have questions related to your academic proficiencies to be successful in college, you may find our adult basic education page useful.

Students with some prior civilian college or interested spouses/family members/civilians are encouraged to contact the counselor directly or call 247-4204 and request a counseling appointment.
