Handpicked to serve as a member of the Hill AFB Honor Guard my standards of conduct and level of professionalism must be above reproach, for I represent all others in my service.
Others earned the right for me to wear the ceremonial uniform one that is honored in a rich tradition and history. I will honor their memory by wearing it properly and proudly.
Never will I allow my performance to be dictated by the type of ceremony, severity of the temperature, or size of the crowd. I will remain superbly conditioned to perfect all movements throughout every drill and ceremony.
Obligated by oath I am constantly driven to excel by a deep devotion to duty and a strong sense of dedication.

Honor Guard Mission
The primary mission of the Hill AFB Honor Guard is to provide funeral honors for active duty, retired, and veteran members who served honorably in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army Air Corps, Army Air Forces, and Women's Air Forces. The honor guard also supports protocol and ceremonial functions for units assigned to the 75 ABW, tenant units and organizations, and local communities, time and resources permitting.

Detail Sizes
The honor guard is tasked to provide 20 members for active duty funerals, 10 members for retiree funerals, and 2 members for veterans. Color guard functions require no less than 4 members and can include up to 21 for an honor guard cordon.

Area of Responsibility
The Hill AFB Honor Guard serves a 260,000 square mile area that includes 3/4 of Utah, Eastern Nevada, Western Wyoming, and the bottom half of Idaho.

To Schedule The Honor Guard For Funeral Honors
Requests can be made by contacting the honor guard office at DSN 777-3967, commercial (801) 777-3967, or commercial (801) 430-0303. All requests must be made by a funeral home representative handling the family's funeral request. Family members should not contact the honor guard. A minimum lead-time of 48 hours is preferred to ensure the honor guard has ample time to prepare for the funeral honors.

To Schedule the Honor Guard for Military Protocol and Ceremonial Functions
Requests can be made by contacting the honor guard office at DSN 777-3967 or commercial (801) 777-3967. Requests can also be accepted by FAX (777-8520) using the request form listed in the links section at the bottom of this page. It is very important to remember that a request may be cancelled at any time due to a funeral honors request taking precedence over the request. The honor guard would also be happy to train unit personnel to perform requirements for the request to make it more personal.

To Schedule the Honor Guard for Civilian Functions, Parades, and Ceremonies
Requests should be directed to the Public Affairs Office at DSN 777-5210 or commercial (801) 777-5210. The Public Affairs Office will evaluate the request then forward the request to the honor guard office. The honor guard will determine if the mission permits the support of the request. It is very important to remember that a request may be cancelled at any time due to a funeral honors request taking precedence over the request. Requesting party is required to fill out a DD Form 2536, Request for Armed Forces Participation in Public Events, which is found in the links section at the bottom of this page.

Joining the Hill AFB Honor Guard
The Hill AFB Honor Guard is looking for Team Hill's professionals to serve as Honor Guard members. Any and all ranks are eligible to join. All individuals wishing to join the honor guard need to contact the Honor Guard NCOIC at DSN 777-3967 or contact their First Sergeant for information on how to join. Applicants may download the Assignment Memorandum listed in the links section at the bottom of this page. The Assignment Memorandum states the requirement to join the honor guard.

History of the Honor Guard Logo
Malcom Haines, former Superintendent of the USAF Honor Guard, was the first to design and draft the USAF Honor Guard emblem. Under the guidance of Capt Marcel Mayer, former Commander, SrA Scott Stuart designed the final version of the emblem and it was approved on 4 October 1976.

The emblem is composed of crossed M-1 rifles silhouetted over a silver gray Roman helmet, complete with a scarlet red horsehair festoon, on a field of ultramarine blue with the attached organizational motto.

The color of the lettering is ultramarine blue and the border of the design is gold. The Roman helmet is symbolic of the Praetorian Guard of the western world. The red festoon denotes courage and valor. The silver gray of the helmet proper is for excellence desired of the Honor Guard personnel.

The crossed rifles denote the USAF Honor Guard's primary weapon. The ultramarine blue background symbolizes the primary theater of Air Force operations, the sky and beyond. The attached motto, "To Honor With Dignity", best represents the mission of the USAF Honor Guard.
