Fitness Centers

Hill Air Force Base has three fitness areas that offer a variety of equipment to meet your fitness needs. In addition, an outdoor track and a 5K hard surface scenic trail that circles Centennial Park and the Duck Pond are located on the south side of the base.

Facilities

Warrior Fitness Center offers a state of the art weight room, cardiovascular exercise equipment, universal equipment, saunas, racquetball courts, two basketball courts, two softball fields, a youth baseball field, a climbing wall, and an indoor running and walking track. Located directly to the east of the Warrior are three softball fields and the Youth Program fields are across the street to the south.

Hess Fitness Center houses a basketball court, two racquetball courts, walleyball court, and a family fitness area (all kids need to be supervised with a parent present). The center also has a wide range of cardiovascular and exercise equipment. The Hess Fitness Center is also your after-hours access as Active Duty or a Civilian Employee. Sign up for this is at the Warrior Fitness Center during duty hours.

The Functional Fitness Area is a 10,400 square foot training space located in building 520. Some of the available equipment includes the Alpha Warrior Battle Rig, TRX suspension training, squat racks, dumbbells, kettlebells, deadlift platforms, rowing machines, and Assault bikes. The area is covered in rubber matting, and a small section is turf. The Functional Fitness Area is home the Fitness Improvement Program and WarBird CrossFit. Authorized users must be at least 13 years old to enter; children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Climbing 101

Climbers and belayers must NEVER forget the following critical criteria for safe climbing.

 

  • The belayer/climber must double-back harness buckle.
  • The belayer/climber must tie in using the Figure 8 Correctly.
  • The belayer must use IN-Line belay device or equivalent correctly.
  • The belayer must inspect himself/herself (harness, belay, locked carabineers).
  • The climber must inspect himself/herself (harness, knot) and the wall.
  • The belayer/climber must use proper belay commands.
  • The belayer must never remove brake hand while climber is in the air or on route.
  • The belayer must be available to efficiently demonstrate PBUS belaying Method.
  • The belayer must be able to demonstrate safely lowering climber in a controlled manner.
  • The belayer/climber must tie in using the Figure 8 Correctly.

Open on AFMC Family Days and most Federal Holidays from 0730-1600.

24-hour access to the Hess Fitness Center is available to Active Duty and Civilian Employees who register their CAC with the Warrior FC front desk during regular business hours.

Equipment Use Policy

Non-uniformed members are required to give priority to uniformed guests on certain equipment between 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This applies to the strength training and cardio equipment areas on the second floor only. Fitness center staff is available to suggest alternative equipment or other areas in the center where non-military can accomplish their workouts.
